Missouri’s Knights of Columbus have been in partnership with Missouri Special Olympics for over 30 years. Knights of Columbus, St. Robert Charter have been working directly with Laquey R-V School District’s Special Olympics Organization for over 10 years. 15,000+ athletes across Missouri are able to discover new strengths, abilities, skills, and success through the power of sports in Special Olympics. The Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities, better known as the local Tootsie Roll Drive, take up donations to raise money for this great program. The money raised by donations go towards contributions within local communities. Steve Hoffman and Adam Sadowski were pleased to be able to hand Laquey Special Olympics a check for over $550! Thank you so much for your valued partnership and generosity in allowing Laquey’s Special Olympics Program to reach out and benefit so many of our local youth!

In honor of "World Kindness Day," the Laquey Student Council would like to recognize Laquey 5th Grader, Michael Jones, for his inspiring random act of kindness. When Michael heard about the Student Council Thanksgiving Food Drive, he decided to use the birthday money he recently received to buy food donations for the food drive. It was more important to him that he help a family in need from our community than to spend his birthday money on himself. We hope Michael's random act of kindness will encourage everyone to do something nice for someone, not just for today, but every day.

Ms. Murphy's Biology Classes extracted seeds from soil and stool samples to learn about the differences in germination rates of seeds dispersed by wind and those dispersed by animals. This activity will lead to learning about plant structure and function and mitosis. (Note: stool samples were not real and were created for simulation.)

It is Red Ribbon week! Talk to your students about peer pressure and drugs. Kids give into peer pressure because they want to fit in. They want to be liked and they worry that they may be left out or made fun of if they don't go along with the group. The best way to be prepared for when this happens is to have a good excuse/reason already practiced. Conversation starter: Guardian/Parent: How do you say "no" to peer pressure? Student: I don't know, why? Guardian/Parent: If you have an excuse or reason you are more likely to not do something you didn't want to do. Let's practice! Drugs are illegal and dangerous. I have to stay healthy for sports. I am not putting bad stuff in my body. Or what sounds easy for you? - The Laquey Counselors
