Congrats to Senior Cycila Keeney and 2 of her classmates in the WCC culinary arts program on making it to the Finals at World Food Championships
Three culinary arts students -- Molly McDermitt (Crocker), Cycila Keeney (Laquey) and Samantha Etheridge (Crocker) -- competed earlier on Oct. 15, 2026 at the World Food Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., where they are going up against some of the best chefs in the world.
The students, who are under the direction of Chef Jon Dye, took 6th place out of 21 teams, putting them in the finals round that will be held on Sunday morning.
Their opening round dish included bacon butternut squash sauce with bacon cheddar mashed potatoes, bacon-wrapped meatloaf with bacon apricot brandy jam that was finished with a mustard bacon bourbon glaze.
This marks the fifth straight year the WCC Culinary team has qualified for the WFC.

The grace period for students who qualified for Free or Reduced Meals last school year ended yesterday, October 5th.
Beginning now, students who do not have an approved Free & Reduced Meal Application for the 2026–2027 school year will be charged the regular meal price until a new application is submitted and approved.
If you have not turned in your application yet, please do so as soon as possible. We know families are busy, and we want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to apply and receive any benefits they may qualify for.
Applications can be completed through Infinite Campus. Please log in to your parent account and select the Free and Reduced Meal Application option.
If you would prefer a paper copy, you may stop by any of the school offices or have your child pick one up in the cafeteria.
Please remember that meal charges will continue to be billed until the new application has been received and approved.
